On October 9, a windless and beautifully sunny day, the 55th "Kyokuyo Open" golf tournament was held to commemorate the anniversary of the company's foundation (October 10, 1942). This year, we welcomed 105 golf lovers from our suppliers, subcontractors and other stake holders to express our gratitude for their contribution and support.
For the first time since 2007, we selected as venue "Shimonoseki Golden Golf Club ", which is known for one of the most technical and demanding courses in Japan. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, it features undulating "potato-chippish" fairways, unexpected bunkers on green, huge bent grass field for #9 and #18, to name a few examples. If you are a tourist you will be surely impressed by the natural beauty, but if you are a golfer, you may see a place for ascetic training... Anyway, 105 monks players were invited to challenge this difficult course.
The winner was Mr. Shoji Shinoda of Yanmar, who participated in the event in place of his colleague ! With his face fixed in a full smile, the champion received the trophy from Kyokuyo's president, Mr. Katsuhiko Ochi (who didn't play by the way). The best gross prize went to the 2014 overall winner Mr. Kunihiro Gyoten, who recorded 80 this year - a great score for this course.
