Enriching the World from the Waterfront City Shimonoseki
Since our founding, both our offices and shipyards have always been located in Shimonoseki. Even today, most of our employees live and build their lives here.
As a company nurtured by this city, we are committed to contributing to the development of the local community and economy, so that Shimonoseki remains a place that is vibrant, comfortable, and fulfilling to live in.
At the same time, when we broaden our perspective, we see that our engagement extends beyond the local community. It reaches across the nation, the industry, and the world.

WHAT WE DO IN THE COMMUNITIES
We welcome junior high school students to visit our shipyard.
It is a unique experience – not quite a typical children’s field trip, nor a high school-level technical program.
The perspectives they bring, distinctive to their age, offer fresh and inspiring insights.
We welcome university students from South Korea for shipyard visits.
The photo shows students from the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, College of Environmental and Marine Sciences at Pukyong National University, located in Busan, a sister city of Shimonoseki.
As part of a training program for students from the Asia-Pacific region studying at World Maritime University, established by the IMO in Sweden, we hosted a visit to a container vessel under construction at Kyokuyo Shipyard, along with presentations on our facilities and development initiatives.
Shimonoseki Ballpark, once the home stadium of the Taiyo Whales, continues to host professional baseball preseason games and high school tournaments. Kyokuyo Shipyard previously displayed advertising on the back fence of the stadium, although this is no longer in place.
As climate change becomes an increasingly urgent global challenge, Kyokuyo Shipyard is working toward achieving zero emissions for 100% of its newly built vessels by around 2035.
In collaboration with marine equipment manufacturers and partners, we are advancing development and construction initiatives in this field.
Our efforts have also been selected under a government program promoting the construction of zero-emission vessels.
The Shimonoseki Cutter Boat Race attracts participants from across Japan and continues to grow in popularity each year.
Kyokuyo Shipyard’s official boat team, Kyokuyo BLUE STARS, has taken part in every race since the sixth edition and is striving to reach the finals.
