Kyokuyo, with its strong design capabilities, is oriented toward creating specific products that meet specific purposes rather than general-purpose generic ships.

We have been involved in many unique projects, including shallow-draft RORO liners for connection across the Dover Strait, ice-class PCCs for the Baltic Sea, and open-hatch MPCs for African routes, to cite a few. Through decades of colorful experiences, we have developed our conceptual and technical skills to respond to any need accurately.

These skills can, of course, be applied to the ships built for coastal and/or short trade. How about RORO designs that are fully compatible with short sea trade and have minimized cargo handling time to the limit? How about the electrification of engines and other equipment onboard? Utilizing shaft generators for applications other than power generation? Automation system to the latest world standard for ocean-going vessels?

We will make the best proposal for your project involving coastal or short-distance maritime transportation.

Perhaps contrary to the common image, Kyokuyo has consistently built ships for coastal trade in Japan, too. As you guess, these are not conventional ones, but a group of ambitious products built to meet today's and tomorrow's needs.

For instance, NATORI, NAGARA, and NOGAMI - are an award-winning series of the largest container carriers ever built for domestic transportation in Japan. Equipped with the SSS-BOW that reduces fossil fuel consumption and advanced control/monitoring systems that reflect the latest IT/IoT technologies, they demonstrate our design and construction capabilities once again.

Carbon neutral, modal shifts, labor shortage... the coastal shipping is undergoing a big change. We invite you to take advantage of our capabilities to realize your ideas for upgrading coastal or short-distance transportation.
