HISTORY TIMELINE

  • 1942/10

    ESTABLISHMENT

    Established as Hikoshima Shipbuilding Company by the combination of five neighboring shipbuilding companies. Starts shipbuilding and ship repairing.
  • 1945/05

    REGISTRATION

    Registered as a joint stock company.
  • 1956/07

    NAME CHANGE AFTER MERGER

    Fusion with Murakami Iron Works Co., Ltd. and changed the name to Murakami Shipbuilding & Iron Works Co., Ltd. Capital JY 10.5 mill.
  • 1961/07

    BECOMING KYOKUYO

    Changed the company name to Kyokuyo Shipbuilding & Iron Works Co., Ltd.
  • 1962/12

    FACTORY RENEWAL

    Renewed the factory equipment. Capital JY 21mill.
  • 1969/12

    LAND PURCHASE

    Bought a land of 60,000m2 at Chofu, in Shimonoseki City.
  • 1970/06

    CAPITAL INCREASED

    Capital JY 50mill.
  • 1971/06

    NEW FACTORY COMPLETED

    Completed the building dock (3,000GRT) and the repairing dock (3,000GRT) at Chofu works.
  • 1972/01

    MOVED TO CURRENT LOCATION

    Moved the head office to Chofu, where the company actually locates.
  • 1973/09

    BUILDING CAPACITY EXPANSION

    Expanded building capacity* up to 4,500GRT.
  • 1975/06

    BUILDING CAPACITY EXPANSION

    Expanded building and repairing capacity* to handle more and larger ships up to 12,500GRT and 5,200GRT respectively.
  • 1977/12

    FILED FOR COURT PROTECTION

    Filed for relief under the Corporate Rehabilitation Law
  • 1980/03

    REHABILITATION PLAN APPROVED

    Rehabilitation plan approved by the Court. Reduced building capacity* down to 8,700GRT following the Government guidance.
  • 1984/01

    CHANGE OF COMPANY NAME

    Changed the company name to Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation.
  • 1985/02

    CAPITAL INCREASED

    Changed the company name to Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation.
  • 1988/03

    BUILDING CAPACITY REDUCED

    Reduced building capacity* down to 4,999GRT, again following the Government guidance.
  • 1991/11

    REPAIRING CAPACITY EXPANDED

    Expanded repairing capacity* up to 6,900GRT.
  • 1992/09

    TERMINATION OF REHABILITATION PLAN

    Successful termination of corporate rehabilitation plan.
  • 1992/12

    ALL WEATHER BUILDING BLOCK ASSY. FACTORY

    Built all weather block assembly factory. Introduced NC Plasma cutters.
  • 1993/07

    BUILDING CAPACITY EXPANSION

    Expanded building capacity* up to 5,999GRT.
  • 1996/03

    CAPITAL INCREASED

    CITY OF ST. PETERSBURG WINS JAPAN SHIP OF THE YEAR

    The world's first SSS-bowed ecoship "City of St.Petersburg" Wins Japan Ship of the Year 2010 - the most valuable award in the Japan's shipbuilding industry.

    THE FIRST SHIP CHRISTENING CEREMONY OUTSIDE JAPAN

    The naming ceremony of RORO carrier 'Capucine' was held outside Japan for the 1st time for Kyokuyo.

    NEW OFFICE BUILT

    The world's first SSS-bowed container ship 'NATORI' wins "Award for Development of Technology that Reduces the Environmental Impact for Logistic Operations" at the 17th Logistics Environment Awards.

    NATORI NAMED SHIP OF THE YEAR'S CATEGORY WINNER

    The world's first SSS-bowed container ship 'NATORI' awarded the "Best Small Cargo Ship" in the 2015 Japanese Ship of the Year event hosted by the Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers (JASNAOE).

    BOSS OF THE DESIGN TEAM RECEIVES PRIME MINISTER'S PRIZE
