WHY KYOKUYO?

We are a little different from other shipyards. This is how we sail.

KYOKUYO LOVES CHALLENGES

The driving force that has brought KYOKUYO to where it is today is our love of challenges. We have always ventured into new and uncharted oceans, never afraid of headwinds and rough seas.

Even for technically difficult projects that other shipbuilders might be hesitant to take on, KYOKUYO will try to propose a new solution to our customers, utilizing our unique capabilities.

A shipbuilding company is more profitable when it builds more standardized - identical - vessels. By manufacturing many products from a single drawing, shipyards can reduce the ratio of design and development cost and take advantage of purchasing materials and equipment in volume and routinize manufacturing and fabrication. This is why many shipyards are working on design standardization and serial manufacturing.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, KYOKUYO is not a big enterprise and cannot easily make large-scale investments. Also, due to the size limitations of our facilities, high-volume orders are not expected. We have decided to satisfy the needs of a small group of customers by focusing on technically difficult, original, or specialized vessels that other economy-oriented shipyards cannot handle.

KYOKUYO's goal is to be a technological leader in builders of compact merchant vessels. We will continue to improve our technical and conceptual capabilities further and enhance our presence as a unique shipyard seeking breakthrough solutions.

We have worked on a wide variety of challenging projects : building state-of-the-art MPCs to the European standards for shipowners who had never placed orders with Japanese yards; equipping Japan's largest coastal container ship with a spherically shaped bow that reduces wind resistance, etc. etc.

These unique projects require the true comprehensive capabilities of a shipyard, in terms of engineering, design, construction, sales, and communication. KYOKUYO is a compact shipyard based in Shimonoseki. As colleagues working in the same location, we are always striving to challenge ourselves as a well-balanced team.

We like calling ourselves "TEAM KYOKUYO." Regardless of age, gender, nationality, or position, everyone here tries to build the best ships possible as a member of one team.

STATISTICS

We have analyzed the customers of the ships we have built since 2000, by region and by country. Please note that this is not exact data by nature.
