Although the method of transporting refrigerated and frozen cargoes is changing day by day as containers are being used more and more, bananas and other fruits used to be transported by specialized refrigerated vessels.

There was a time when Kyokuyo, especially in the early to mid-1990s, built mainly reefer carriers for fruits. A good example is the five-vessel direct order from Del Monte.

CHIKUMA REEFER is a 400,000 cubic foot type, our largest proven reefer, with a primary focus on fruit transportation. Aiming for maximum pallet-friendly floor space, a high "floor area ratio" was pursued. With a total floor area reaching 4,770m², her design has created a buzz in the industry.
