Although somewhat less common these days due to the improvement of port facilities and streamlining of logistics patterns around the world, Kyokuyo has also built many geared container carriers, which are equipped with cranes onboard for cargo handling.
Gearless ships cannot be loaded or unloaded at all without appropriate cargo handling facilities at the port side, so this type, which can be used at a wider range of ports, may be a viable option depending on the operation pattern of the customer. If it is also necessary to transport bulk cargo and/or steel products, the Multi-purpose Cargo Carrier (MPC) stands to be considered.
HANJIN SEMARANG, named after a port in Central Java, Indonesia, is a geared container ship based on the then newest 907 TEU JAPANMAX and equipped with two 40-ton cranes. The MPC technology that we intensively built in the early 2000s was also fed back to the ship to make it a high-performance container ship.
While this container carrier has cranes in the center, Kyokuyo also has experience with side cranes - mounted on the side of the vessel.
