This is the first in a series of three gearless 13,650tdw multi-purpose cargo ships ordered by Arklow Shipping, based in Arklow, Ireland. Some may be surprised to learn that the vessel is registered in Ireland, rather than Liberia, Malta or Panama, and her port of registry is Arklow. This alone clearly indicates that Kyokuyo loves a challenge!
One of the characteristics of Kyokuyo is that the percentage of orders from overseas is significantly higher than that of our competitors. At the time when we received the order from Arklow Shipping, there was a continuous stream of orders for container carriers from China, including COSCO and SITC, and this series of MPC's is a project that marks our return to the cargo ship sector and to the European market after a long absence. We will then head to the U.K., Switzerland, Norway and Benelux, while trying to improve our English language skills(!)
ARKLOW WAVE is a container-friendly open-hatch type multi-purpose cargo vessel that can load steel coils (25T/40T) besides bulk cargoes including grain, coal, fertilizer and cacao. Another topic is the use of a Wärtsilä medium-speed engine as the main engine, which was rare for Japanese shipyards at the time.
River dance lessons, Irish songs, the Irish national anthem sung by all at a jazz bar, and Bacon & Cabbage. The ship sailed away, leaving us with many unforgettable memories.
