Kyokuyo's annual cherry-blossom-admiring party, or HANAMI party, was held on April 10 this year.
Time goes really fast these days, and it's October again. Yes, it's the month for "Kyokuyo Open", the golf game we hold annually to celebrate the anniversary of Kyokuyo's foundation 67 years ago. To thank our customers, suppliers, sub-contractors and other stakeholders, we invited no less than 144 players(!) to the most prestigious (and very difficult) course of the city, "Simonoseki Golf Club", on October 9.
After being launched impressively, as reported in News100, S-485 was named and delivered on August 31, 2009. She is the eldest of 4-unit series of 16,000m2 pure car carriers ordered by Sumitomo Corporation for Gram Car Carriers AS of Norway.
In May 2009, Kyokuyo hosted a "reunion" golf tournament inviting former members of the company. This event, although held only irregularly, has a long history. Last year, we decided to renew it as an annually held event under name of "President's Cup" and voilà, it is the second time to host the game.
This issue features the untimely report of Kyokuyo's yearly cherry-blossom-viewing a.k.a. "hanami" party, which was held on Saturday March 28 this year. The organizing team, consisting of '08 rookie employees, did good job analyzing weather reports, advertising the event, and getting what was necessary.
Japan is traditionally known as country of career-long employment and escalator system. Things are changing slowly though. Nowadays, one can switch companies more easily than before as labor fluidity is increasing.
All our avid readers certainly know that Kyokuyo was founded on October 10 more than 65 years ago and that every year we commemorate this day by hosting a golf event, aka "Kyokuyo Open", where are invited more than 100 players, including our customers, suppliers, subcontractors, employees and friends.
To old residents, name of "Shimonoseki Stadium" sounds specially nostalgic. Long time ago, when whaling business was permitted and active, Shimonoseki had thrived on fishery.
Hello again! How have you been? Today I will take you to the world of blue water and ... sepia ink!
This year too, we had the flower-watching "hanami" party (see news069) under organization of young employees.
Hello again! I'm Miho Miyaji, secretary of Team Kyokuyo, the softball team we introduced to you in our news073. Today, I am very happy to report you that our team is now proven actually strong, as it won a City Softball Tournament of October 28, 2007, organized by the Shimonoseki Softball Association.
This year too, Kyokuyo hosted a golf tournament now widely known as "Kyokuyo Open" on October 10, its foundation day. As many as 145 guest and host players (in 38 groups!) gathered at Shimonoseki to celebrate the company's 65th anniversary. The sky was clear.
Hello folks, we are a group of (mostly) young sportsmen and a sportswoman working at Kyokuyo. All of us firmly share the same passion for shipbuilding and ... softball! Our squad, called "Team Kyokuyo", is powerful enough to be recognized as one of leading units in the city.
In this issue, we report on "hanami" party of Saturday March 31, planned and organized by a group of young employees of Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation.
In this issue, I'm going to go just a little further out of the hometown, heading west. I'll introduce the port town of Moji, facing Shimonoseki across the Kanmon Channel.
On January 23, 2007, we received 38 guests from PuKyong National University (PKNU) of Korea. They are professors and students at PNKU's College of Environmental and Marine Sciences and Technology, visiting Kyokuyo and other places in Japan as part of Pusan-Shimonoseki sister-city exchange activities.
Although "Kyokuyo Open" is not a national premier golf tournament for professional golfers, it is unique match virtually "open" to everybody who has something to do with Kyokuyo, from customers, contractors, suppliers, bankers, to ... pub owners, let alone employees and employers of Kyokuyo Shipyard.
July 13, 2006 was the day of the naming and delivery ceremony for S465, 8th vessel among the series of container carriers ordered by our close and important client, SITC Maritime (Group) Co., Ltd. of Qingdao, China.
This time, I will talk about Chôfu, historical town where Kyokuyo Shipyard was born and resides today.
The 45th "Kyokuyo Open" golf match was held on October 11, 2005, under crisp autumn sky. This year, a record number of 125 proud players including our customers, suppliers, subcontractors and employees, gathered at Shimonoseki to win the biggest title of the industry (in my opinion)!
