Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation's "eco-friendly" Roll-on Roll-off car carrier, City of St. Petersburg, has won "The ShipPax Award 2010 for Outstanding RoRo Exterior."
On March 29, 2011, 2,000unit type pure car carrier S495 was named and delivered. She is the second and the last of 2-ship series of Kyokuyo's self-developed eco-friendly ship with a semi-spherically shaped bow (SSS-bow) that reduces the wind resistance. Featured in TV and newspapers, the sisters are perhaps the most famous of the vessels we have ever built.
On March 8, 2011, container carrier S-498 was launched as scheduled. S-498 can carry as much as 1,022 units of 20 feet standard containers - the biggest number ever for a ship built by Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation. She will be delivered in the month of June, after outfitting process.
At the end of 2010, on December 22, we had a very busy and exciting day. It was the day of naming and delivery of S-493, Kyokuyo's "Semi-Spherical Shaped bow"ed eco-ship.
September 11, 2010 is the day when everyone at Kyokuyo delightfully witnessed launching of the most original and sexiest newbuilding ship in its 68 years of history: S-493, "eco-friendly" car carrier with a futuristic "SSS bow", or Semi-Spherical Shaped bow, which we featured in News112.
On June 30, 2010 took place the naming and delivery ceremony of S-488, 16,000m2 type car carrier, ordered by Sumitomo Corporation for Gram Car Carriers AS of Norway. She is the last of 4 sister vessels, which have given us an clear boost of self confidence for the future.
On the last day of the previous fiscal year, March 31, 2010, took place the naming and delivery ceremonies for S487, our 3rd 16,000m2 type Pure Car Carrier ordered by Sumitomo Corporation for Norway's Gram Car Carriers AS.
As reported in a fairly big article by January 27's Nikkei, Japanese leading economic newspaper, Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation will start building a new series of 2,000 units type pure car carriers with an innovative hull design which significantly reduces wind resistance.
The first big event of 2010 at Kyokuyo was the naming and delivery ceremonies for S486 held on January 7. She is the second of 4 pure car carrier sisters of 16,000m2 that we are building by the order of Sumitomo Corporation for account of Gram Car Carriers AS of Norway.
After being launched impressively, as reported in News100, S-485 was named and delivered on August 31, 2009. She is the eldest of 4-unit series of 16,000m2 pure car carriers ordered by Sumitomo Corporation for Gram Car Carriers AS of Norway.
On April 10, a launching ceremony was carried out to celebrate S485, the first of a series of 16,000m2 PCTCs (Pure Car/Truck Carriers) Kyokuyo is building for a Europe-based customer.

Kyokuyo received the first order for its new strategic product - Roll-On/Roll-Off cargo carrier. Being aware of the fact that about 50% of the world RO/RO fleet of "our size" are more than 20 years old, we have been tackling since a couple of years the development of modern RO/RO, which can reduce as much as 60% of CO2 emission compared with truck transportation. This 4-ship order marks the first fruit of the project.
