Do you know Kyokuyo set up a cooperative in 2004 with several other companies in shipbuilding industry? In addition to group purchasing, it runs a trainee program, which makes it possible for young Chinese technicians to train in Japan.
In May 2009, Kyokuyo hosted a "reunion" golf tournament inviting former members of the company. This event, although held only irregularly, has a long history. Last year, we decided to renew it as an annually held event under name of "President's Cup" and voilà, it is the second time to host the game.
This issue features the untimely report of Kyokuyo's yearly cherry-blossom-viewing a.k.a. "hanami" party, which was held on Saturday March 28 this year. The organizing team, consisting of '08 rookie employees, did good job analyzing weather reports, advertising the event, and getting what was necessary.
April 1, the first day of a fiscal year, is the day of personnel assignment and reassignment of Kyokuyo, like many other Japanese firms. This year, no less than 20 employees were reassigned, and most cases are that of mid-level members who gained appointment to a higher or management position within the framework of the managerial challenge for organizational rejuvenation.

Tetsuo Mitsui, Kyokuyo's senior managing director, delivered a special lecture at Ito New Campus of Kyushu University on January 22, 2009.
As explained in the news079, Kyokuyo Shipyard presents a gift every year to the employees who have just reached 20 years of age, on the occasion of "Seijin-no-Hi", Japanese coming-of-age day. Being celebrated on the second Monday of January, this national holiday fell on January 12 this year. We held our ceremony on 9th, the working day immediately before Seijin-no-Hi.
Japan is traditionally known as country of career-long employment and escalator system. Things are changing slowly though. Nowadays, one can switch companies more easily than before as labor fluidity is increasing.
On October 1, the first day of the 2nd semester of 2008, at 8 clock in the morning, I introduced Kyokuyo's action plan for 2009-2010 under new slogan "For our future. Re-challenge 2010" to all the employees and subcontractors.
All our avid readers certainly know that Kyokuyo was founded on October 10 more than 65 years ago and that every year we commemorate this day by hosting a golf event, aka "Kyokuyo Open", where are invited more than 100 players, including our customers, suppliers, subcontractors, employees and friends.
Kyokuyo's office building annex was extended to 3 floors this summer, to provide an ample and organized space for our growing design division.
After the company's 71st regular shareholders' meeting and subsequent board meeting held on June 27, Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation announced board of directors for 2008/2009 and the creation of new post of corporate officer.

Like everywhere in Japan, the new fiscal-academic-corporate year kicked in on the bright and clear day of April 1!
"Seijin no hi" (Day of Adults, literally) is the Japanese coming-of-age day, held on the second Monday in January. To celebrate its employees who reaches the age of 20, Kyokuyo Shipyard presents them a gift on that day every year.
Hello again! I'm Miho Miyaji, secretary of Team Kyokuyo, the softball team we introduced to you in our news073. Today, I am very happy to report you that our team is now proven actually strong, as it won a City Softball Tournament of October 28, 2007, organized by the Shimonoseki Softball Association.
This year too, Kyokuyo hosted a golf tournament now widely known as "Kyokuyo Open" on October 10, its foundation day. As many as 145 guest and host players (in 38 groups!) gathered at Shimonoseki to celebrate the company's 65th anniversary. The sky was clear.
How do you do? I am Nagatomi, from General Affairs Division. In the shareholders' meeting of June this year, I was approved as director of the company.
