NEWS 290 : WE ARE ALL LEGAL ADULT MALES!
The cherry blossom season has come again.
On April 1, the "New Hiring" day in Japan, we welcomed 12 new members to Team Kyokuyo.
Ten of them are new graduates, including one from Ehime University Graduate School, one from Vocational Training School in the Western part of Yamaguchi, three from Shimonoseki Technical High School, two from Hayatomo High School, one each from Shimonoseki International High School and Shimonoseki Commercial High School, and one from Mine Seirei High School. The remaining two are mid-career hires : one who regrettably left Kyokuyo two years ago and has now returned, and one who jumped into shipbuilding from another industry.
At the welcoming ceremony, each of 10 fresh graduates (all male), who had just received their letters of appointment from President Ochi, gave a short speech. All of them looked so nervous that we could feel their tension, but their talk sounded both fresh and hopeful.
Ochi responded, "On April 1 of this year, the Civil Code was revised and the age of adulthood was lowered to 18." "I would like you to be aware of the fact that you are joining the ranks of adults and act responsibly." He also encouraged them to use their own time to learn something outside of work, whether it be reading a book or finding a hobby, and to become unique.
Nine high school graduates entered a three-month technical training period at the Oita Regional Shipbuilding Craftsmanship Center in Saiki City, Oita Prefecture, on April 4. We look forward to the day when they will show us how much they have grown through acquiring shipbuilding skills and qualifications, interacting with new graduate participants from other shipyards, fostering teamwork among employees who have joined Kyokuyo at the same time, and undergoing many other valuable experiences.
As for the university graduate members, they will now undergo external and internal training and will be assigned to departments for which they are deemed qualified.
I am sure each of our newest colleagues will go through many hard and happy times in the future, but hey! let's share our experiences in Team Kyokuyo and move forward together!
