On November 27, 2012, a unique workshop was held at Kyokuyo Shipyard by Japan Coastal Shipping Association (JCSA), which comprises Japan's 26 major coastal ship operators.
On November 8, 2012, Kyokuyo Shipyard conducted a bi-annual fire drill in coorperation with Shimonoseki-East fire station.
Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation and its subsidiary Shosen Co., Ltd., are members of a local cooperative business association called "Shimonoseki Zosen Kanren Jigyo Kyodo Kumiai" (Shimonoseki Shipbuilding-related Business Association). One of its main activities since 2004 is the organization of an international trainee program.
On July 1, 2012, we welcomed Matthew Sizemore to fill the role of English teacher at Kyokuyo. Matt, 27, a California-native, will also take care of other English-related services like translation, interpretation and proofreading.
Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation has announced that former director and head of corporate strategy office Shusaku Yamada will be promoted to managing director of the company after its shareholders' meeting scheduled on June 28, 2012. Here goes a short message from Shusaku.
Kyokuyo's long-awaited new office building has now been completed after 9 months of construction works. With the delivery done on July 10, our business operation in the new building started on Tuesday July 17, 2012.
Since April is the first month of a fiscal year, there were some changes in Kyokuyo, too.
Let us introduce Norihiko Harada, our new Corporate Officer and General Manager of Material Purchasing Division. Norihiko joined Kyokuyo last November from a trading company, where he was in charge of sales of steel products to shipbuilders(!).

Yes, it is running as scheduled, with the old building completely demolished and bulldozed now. As everything is ready for construction works, we had the keel laying, err, ground breaking ceremony on January 20.
On this first day of the year, I would like to say some words about Kyokuyo's 2011 and 2012.
Now that more than 40 years have passed since Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation moved from Shimonoseki's Hikoshima island to Chofu area - its current place, we have decided to demolish and rebuild our main office building.
Eight years passed since we established with other shipbuilding-related companies a cooperative which, besides operating group purchasing, runs an international training program.

In every October, we celebrate the employees who reach their 10th, 20th (and so on) anniversary on the job. This year we have 8 eligibles, including our 3 co-workers who have been working for Kyokuyo for 20 years, and 5 for 10 years. All of them belong to Production Department.
Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation has recently entered into a contract with AVEVA K.K. for introduction of its "AVEVA Marine", highly acclaimed 3D ship design system.
3 months have passed since our new English training program was started as reported in news107. At the end of February, each of 36 participants was invited to do a short English presentation about himself/herself in front of the company president. The idea came from the teacher, who proposed to show how much progress his students have made in the 3 months.
We received a special guest on February 1, 2010. Mr. Kunji Irahara, ex-chairman of Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation came to our factory.
