Recently, this event was haunted by bad weather : in 2017, we had to call off the tournament at 11:00 due to the awful rain ; last year, we were hit by a typhoon before hitting the ball. This year, however, finally, the weather was perfect for golf play and we really enjoyed a great day together!

There were some 'first-times' in 2019 Kyokuyo Open. In its nearly 60 years history, we were happy to welcome our first female participant for this event OPEN for both sexes since 59 years ago. Unbelievable ? Sounds old-fashioned? Yeah, but it's true. Percentage of all golfers who are women is low globally, and further more, you still find much more males than females in the shipbuilding industries!

So, at the awards lunch and ceremony, when Ms. Ogawa from NYK Trading Corporation - the only female participant - won a golf bag by lottery, the air was full of excitement. Some even suspected that it was all set-up, but it was not the case - lady luck just smiled at the other lady.

And the 2019 overall winner was Mr. Uchida, president of Tratec Ltd. Mr. Uchida participated in our tournament for the first time, and won the title for the first time by beating a group of strong contenders who are regularly competing for the champion. Just amazing!

Norihiko Harada, our Vice President, delivered a speech where he once again expressed the gratitude towards our business partners on behalf of the company. He further asked them for continuous support and cooperation to share a great future together. The perfect day was ended with loud acclamations!

The 60th Kyokuyo Open will be held on October 16, 2020, at the Shimonoseki Golden G. C. like this year. We hope that we will have more female golfers in 2020!
