NEWS 253 : ONE-TWO FINISH??
When they departed from Shimonoseki 3 months ago, their solicitous parents came to the station to see the young boys off who were about to start the first voyage, on their own sail, away from the hometown. Now, I feel that the voyage made them look more mature.
Like previous years, the company booked 'Kaizanso' for their stay. As some other shipyards in Shimonoseki chose the same guest house this year, our new colleagues could enjoy pleasant stay with their ex-classmates and fellow teenagers. I overheard that it was just like a school trip!
The Oita Regional Shipbuilding Craftsmanship Center is a training facility which provides, with financial support from Oita Prefecture, Saiki City and Usuki City, various vocational education and training for those engaged in shipbuilding and marine equipment industries within nearby areas. Its long-term training program, carried out with help from local professionals in the industries, aims at contributing to the skill transfer across generations and development of the industries and regional economy.
There were 2 good news this year. First, at the opening ceremony held in April, Ryo Nishijima, our young colleague, was nominated to greet as the trainee representative, with serious approach to the training by his senior co-workers who participated the program in past being highly recognized by the Center.
Second, our Naoki Fukuzumi, who showed outstanding welding skills during the training, served as the trainee representative to deliver 'thank you speech' in the ending ceremony. It was our great pleasure that our young fellows played shining roles at both of the ceremonies in front of their rivals from Oita and Shimonoseki, TV cameras and reporters ! Good job, young guys!
So, they were able to successfully acquire shipbuilding and welding related qualifications as scheduled. Good. From now on, they will experience various working places in the Construction Division one after another until coming fall, when the official assignment will be decided. Keep good job Ryo and Naoki!
