Our third news for 2011 is about Japan's "coming-of-age day", a national holiday we have on the second Monday in January every year. And every year, Kyokuyo celebrates its young employees who reach the age of 20 by offering small gift.
At the end of 2010, on December 22, we had a very busy and exciting day. It was the day of naming and delivery of S-493, Kyokuyo's "Semi-Spherical Shaped bow"ed eco-ship.

In every October, we celebrate the employees who reach their 10th, 20th (and so on) anniversary on the job. This year we have 8 eligibles, including our 3 co-workers who have been working for Kyokuyo for 20 years, and 5 for 10 years. All of them belong to Production Department.
On October 8, the 50th "Kyokuyo Open" golf tournament was held at the Shimonoseki Golf Club. Yes, It's surely FIFTIETH, not fifth or fifteenth!
On September 29, 2010 was born another 7,200m3 LPG Carrier. The weather was still hot but breezy and reasonably comfortable, compared to this summer's violent heat from which we still suffered one month ago, when we delivered her sister "SIVA CORAL".
September 11, 2010 is the day when everyone at Kyokuyo delightfully witnessed launching of the most original and sexiest newbuilding ship in its 68 years of history: S-493, "eco-friendly" car carrier with a futuristic "SSS bow", or Semi-Spherical Shaped bow, which we featured in News112.
On August 26, 2010, we delivered a 7,200m2 type LPG Carrier code-named S496. She is the first liquefied gas carrier we have built since 2002.
Like last year, Kyokuyo's fresh technicians got their assignent on August 1. They are 4 this year, and all male.
On June 30, 2010 took place the naming and delivery ceremony of S-488, 16,000m2 type car carrier, ordered by Sumitomo Corporation for Gram Car Carriers AS of Norway. She is the last of 4 sister vessels, which have given us an clear boost of self confidence for the future.
On May 21, a surprise party was held to celebrate 77th birthday of Mr. Nobiyoshi Wakamatsu, beloved "superman" who still energetically works for Kyokuyo as technical adviser. The 77th birthday, or "Kiju", is a Japanese rite of passage which should be specially cerebrated.
Hello, It has been almost 2 years since I posted the last column about our hometown! This time, I am going to introduce "Senteisai" (literal meaning : "festival for the late Emperor"), traditional festival that takes place every year between May 2 and 4 at Shimonoseki.
Kyokuyo's annual cherry-blossom-admiring party, or HANAMI party, was held on April 10 this year.
Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation has recently entered into a contract with AVEVA K.K. for introduction of its "AVEVA Marine", highly acclaimed 3D ship design system.
On the last day of the previous fiscal year, March 31, 2010, took place the naming and delivery ceremonies for S487, our 3rd 16,000m2 type Pure Car Carrier ordered by Sumitomo Corporation for Norway's Gram Car Carriers AS.
3 months have passed since our new English training program was started as reported in news107. At the end of February, each of 36 participants was invited to do a short English presentation about himself/herself in front of the company president. The idea came from the teacher, who proposed to show how much progress his students have made in the 3 months.
We received a special guest on February 1, 2010. Mr. Kunji Irahara, ex-chairman of Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation came to our factory.
As reported in a fairly big article by January 27's Nikkei, Japanese leading economic newspaper, Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation will start building a new series of 2,000 units type pure car carriers with an innovative hull design which significantly reduces wind resistance.
