NEWS 072 : MESSAGE FROM NEW BOARD MEMBERS <1>
Dear customers and readers,
As you may have seen in the previous news, I have been appointed senior managing director of Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation.
Here, you can view all of Kyokuyo's life logs documented over the past 20 years. This is who we are.
Dear customers and readers,
As you may have seen in the previous news, I have been appointed senior managing director of Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation.
After the shareholders' meeting and board of directors' meeting held yesterday, Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation has today announced the formation of its new management team as follows :
Hello, everybody! This time, I, Atsushi Shiga, introduce my Quality Assurance Division of Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation. It is a compact yet highly efficient team with 4 expert members in 2 sections.
In this issue, we report on "hanami" party of Saturday March 31, planned and organized by a group of young employees of Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation.
As our loyal readers know well, April is the month for a Japanese company to welcome newcomers fresh from college and school. This April is however an unusual April for Kyokuyo Shipyard (and general affair staff in particular), as it has received as many as 10 new recruits - number more than double compared to average year level.
In this issue, I'm going to go just a little further out of the hometown, heading west. I'll introduce the port town of Moji, facing Shimonoseki across the Kanmon Channel.
On January 23, 2007, we received 38 guests from PuKyong National University (PKNU) of Korea. They are professors and students at PNKU's College of Environmental and Marine Sciences and Technology, visiting Kyokuyo and other places in Japan as part of Pusan-Shimonoseki sister-city exchange activities.
Have you read Tomomi Sano's introduction to her Material Purchasing Division in News060? Since it was received favorably, now it's my turn.
A happy new year to all!
Kyokuyo's last big event in 2006 was joint ceremony for naming and delivery of S467 and naming of S468 held on December 5. The 13,400tdw multi-purpose cargo boats are sister No.3 and No.4 ordered by Carisbrooke Shipping Holdings Limited.
Although "Kyokuyo Open" is not a national premier golf tournament for professional golfers, it is unique match virtually "open" to everybody who has something to do with Kyokuyo, from customers, contractors, suppliers, bankers, to ... pub owners, let alone employees and employers of Kyokuyo Shipyard.
Every year, about 30 typhoons are born in the Northwest Pacific. Their route varies : some head to China, others proceed to Korean Peninsula, and several hit Japan also. The activity peaks in late summer when water temperatures are warmest.
Annual milestone award celebration was held on October 5. The award is offered to the employees who have reached a specific landmark in their career - beginning with the 10th year of continuous service and subsequent 10 years increment of time.

July 13, 2006 was the day of the naming and delivery ceremony for S465, 8th vessel among the series of container carriers ordered by our close and important client, SITC Maritime (Group) Co., Ltd. of Qingdao, China.
IMO's 81st Maritime Safety Committee officially approved the revisions to SOLAS II-1 on coating performance of seawater ballast tanks, to apply in full force to the tankers and bulkers for which the building contract is placed on or after July 1, 2008. It is said that the decision will have a big impact on the shipbuilding industry - Japanese builders with limited premises in particular - as this involves changes to overall coating and surface treating processes.
Since 3 years, Kyokuyo has been building high-standard modern cargo ships for European owners, along with our established line of products like container carriers or reefers. It is certainly a frontier for Japanese middle sized shipyards which have traditionally specialized in offering basic vessels with excellent finish and for competitive price.
Yes, it's April again. Cherry flowers have already come into blossom and people have started talking about "hanami" party. It's traditionally a time to welcome newcomers in Japan, where "graduation and entrance ceremonies in the shower of cherry blossom" may invoke sentimentality.
February 28, 2006 was a day of double happiness, because two ceremonies took place to commemorate the naming and delivery of S462 and the naming of S463, sister multi-purpose cargo vessels ordered by Carisbrooke Shipping Holding Limited.
This time, I will talk about Chôfu, historical town where Kyokuyo Shipyard was born and resides today.
